It's a shame the cafe's closing, unfortunately money can't be magiced out of thin air: http://www.nuneaton-news.co.uk/Shock-closure-community-cafe/story-26443407-detail/story.html

Sadly, these days it's all about money. I wonder just how many people that place has helped over the years?

I wonder if it might not be more cost effective for the council/social services to offer a little bit of financial support to the charity?

Probably wouldn't cost the council a lot.. It's a shame the PM quietly dropped his Big Society idea just after the last election.

Isn't it weird that Thatcher said there is no such thing as 'Society'.
So you don't exist!

BTW Lex, I couldn't get your link to work. :)

I always said that Thatcherism would forever be linked with greed and the 'I'm alright Jack' attitude.

From recent revelations (and more to come as archived material is opened) I suspect that Thatcher will be painted much blacker in the years to come.

Hi Margaret, it just worked for me, but here it is again, just in case: http://www.nuneaton-news.co.uk/Shock-closure-community-cafe/story-26443407-detail/story.html

I've always thought that Maggie did what she had to do at the time to stop the country falling apart, and becoming a failed state; any fallout could be dealt with at a later date (which politicians of every colour failed to do).

A butcher's shop is closing, quoting similar reasons: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-coventry-warwickshire-32764862

A lot of small traders in Stratford have also closed over the years, blaming high rent & rates.
