Indeed bad news. I was working (running a training course as part of the redundancy package) at Peugeot on their last day of production. To say it was a sad day was an understatement. Now yet another blow...

As decent jobs in Coventry are few and far between, my heart goes out to them; thankfully, at this stage it is purely voluntary.

Slightly less bad; only 90 jobs are going now: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-coventry-warwickshire-30080202

I would suspect that they will get more than 90 volunteers, especially as I'll bet the terms will be attractive. But, they'll lose those that they can least afford to lose, as did Land Rover when they offered a decent package.

In these situations, those that are marketable or close to retirement will bail out, leaving the company with the less experienced and less able. That's why the cycle will keep on repeating until the bitter end.

Plenty of smart companies have picked up previous 'redundancies' from the motor industry and have been pleasantly surprised at their abilities and know-how.
