On the whole, the UK's still a major sporting nation. Out of 200-odd nations/territories etc, England / Team GB are:

-Up amongst the top 32 footballing nations (England)

-4th in the Summer Olympics (GB)

-In the top 10 in Cricket AND Rugby Union (England)

-Seemingly perpetual medalists / world champions in Sailing, Equestrian, Rowing and Cycling (UK, GB, England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland)
