What a waste of the emergency services' time: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-birmingham-27687763

Scandalous.

These people are an absolute menace, tying up the emergency services for trivial, non-emergency reasons.

If it were up to me, anyone calling the 999 service without proper reason would face the courts and a minimum of £100 fine for a first offence, much more for subsequent offences.

Its been a bane for years. People simply don't learn. The fine was £40 for a wasted call out but enforcing it and collecting it is the actual problem. More often than not, emergency crews just drive away because its easier than wasting yet more time.

I have no sympathy with these calls at all. Frankly, I'd fine those abusing the emergency lines a minimum of £1000/offence.
