What a waste of the emergency services' time: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-birmingham-27687763

Scandalous.

These people are an absolute menace, tying up the emergency services for trivial, non-emergency reasons.

If it were up to me, anyone calling the 999 service without proper reason would face the courts and a minimum of 100 fine for a first offence, much more for subsequent offences.

Its been a bane for years. People simply don't learn. The fine was 40 for a wasted call out but enforcing it and collecting it is the actual problem. More often than not, emergency crews just drive away because its easier than wasting yet more time.

There really are some time wasters out there: http://www.rugbyadvertiser.co.uk/news/local-news/listen-scary-hedgehog-and-lost-keys-among-999-calls-1-7157150

I have no sympathy with these calls at all. Frankly, I'd fine those abusing the emergency lines a minimum of 1000/offence.
