I never realised that the punishment for 'crimes' such as this involved chemical castration.

Turing is an interesting case, was it really suicide?

Whatever the rights and wrongs of Turin's case, it is indisputable that this was the law of the time and he must have known the risks he was running. It is interesting that he was done for gross indencency, but of course today, we have no such concept with the effects we can see all around us.
It is very easy to say that if the laws had been different, he wouldn't have found himself in the predicament he did, but this is far from clear and you only need to look at the permissiveness and the breakdown of society around us.
