I've never been a fan of his; and people's hero worship of this VIOLENT criminal makes me feel slightly queezy.

I think he was only a minor criminal in the Great Train Robbery. The news this morning reported that he'd been a ' tea boy ' in the group and had recruited the substitute train driver. He did however, ride off the back of the story becoming infamous for his escape from Wandsworth prison and living off it in exile in Brazil. There were many gangs like now back then ; the Krays etc, all with their own violent connections.

Biggs played it for all it was worth.

The train robbers were dealt with very harshly at the time, mainly because they'd taken a shot at 'the establishment.

I wonder if we'll ever know who the real brains were behind this nasty little caper? I've seen a few quite famous names mentioned.
