At least our police commissioner is good for something. The police originally weren't going to prosecute retired MAGISTRATE due to 'lack of evidence'. Now they've been leaned on a bit, there suddenly is enough evidence.

Yes, it is often the way. It always seems strange that those who murder a police officer tend to be caught very quickly, and we never seem to hear much about officers who have committed wrongdoings (only that 'an officer has been arrested')

Apparently, our magistrate friend got slightly confused. Oh, by the way, he's a pillar of the community - was on his way home from a Rotarian knees-up (bet he wasn't breathalised at the scene) so the jury had better not find him guilty: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-coventry-warwickshire-28408309

Yes, there is still a slight bad odour surrounding the case. I'm going for acquittal on health grounds.....

A ban from driving and a conditional discharge. The f****r did get away with it.

A couple of quotes from the CPS website:

Discharge – this is when the court decides that given the character of the offender and the nature of the crime, punishment would not be appropriate.

Conditional discharge - the offender is released and the offence registered on their criminal record. No further action is taken unless they commit a further offence within a time decided by the court (no more than three years).
