Who has heard about the BBC (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8544150.stm) now making cut backs?

I was getting ready for work this morning watching tv as usual and couldn’t believe it when they said they were making cuts as well! Do you think many jobs (http://www.careersandjobsuk.com/) will be lost as a result of this?

I think in particular right now BBC 6 radio and Asian Network are facing the axe! As far as I am aware they will also be making cuts to the BBC online services! How mad is that? I love that they have a little bit of everything! It seems a bit awful that they are going to make these cuts don’t you think?

At the moment they are saying that there could potentially be a total of 600 job losses across the board once all the changes are made!

What do you guys think? Is this a good thing or a bad thing?

Yeah I see what your saying there Lex, I just think that it could have been done a lot better! I mean sure they need to stream line and make cuts where they are duplicating work, that's understandable! But then cutting off two of the most unique radio stations doesn't achieve that really does it? Surely they should cut products that are very similar to one another and streamline those services?

Yeah I see what your saying with that - its nothing compared to some other networks! I will just have to accept that they are going lol!

It is a shame, though. Maybe they should axe Radio 1 instead - it's been pants for years.

Hehe I can agree with you there! I haven't listened to it for years! I wonder who does in all reality?

I have thought about the BBC for the last month or so when I received notice of my TV licence fee of £140 or something stupid being taken from my account 1st April.I looked back and thought about the richness of music on BBC radios 1&2 and the programms on BBC TV 1&2. I then compared it to what we have now. Radio 1- still humerous with lots and sometimes too much chat and not enough music, certainly far too much talk in comparison to days gone by.Radio 2- not sure because I haven't retuned the car radio since the MOT and service to find it- I know Chris Evans is doing it- like him and remember him from other stuff. TV- well, it seems to be day time repeats and the rest;soap after soap after soap. What if you don't 'do' soap? It doesn't seem as though my fee as yours is actually giving an awful lot of value for money. My Brother used to be a BBC employee. Back then it was a huge corporation and very snobby with it with a person to make the tea for the people who drink tea at tea break. This is what I see is the remnant of what it is now amounting to doing- getting rid of 'tea making tea people' It just might not be getting the 'right' people gone. It did use to be such an admirable station. I think it is far more politically driven now than ever.I think axe or downsize the management. Spend more on what it was all about- broadcasting news, culture and education in all forms we now know.Too many managers , overpaid; like the NHS really.

This is in today's Mail Online(21/03/2014) http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2585792/New-carpets-BBCs-1bn-HQ-just-18-months-opened-Corporation-bosses-demand-revamp-current-decor-not-inspiring-enough.html

The repeats still keep coming and the quality of the station is no better but at least those who remain working for the BBC will have new decor! Did I hear correctly that Susanna Reid is going to the ' other ' side or was I dreaming?
