I was listening to a report on major British projects on the BBC World Service this morning. It basically said that big projects in the UK- the Millenium Dome & Heathrow's Terminal 5 were the main examples (with the 2012 olympics a potential mess-up, but that will partly the IOC's fault!) - are victims of political interference & meddling and incompetent financing, leadnig to delays, projects going vastly over budget, the whole thing going horribly wrong, ending up with the rest of the world laughing at us!
Most other countries seem to just get their contractors to get on with things, with just enough accountability to make sure the money is being spent properly, and what the authority wants to happen is actually happening...
