I made that same application when learning html. I really was bored out of my tree doing the theory bit and thought it made more sense to go straight in and create a website using html then learn to find out why something doesn't work. However, it had to be of subject that interested me. Umpteen pages later I was having a great time and my website kept growing. I then got brave and attempted a bit of JS. Yes, I could have used wizards to do the work for me but I wouldn't have learnt a lot. So, with my trusty Acorn computer and !Edit (Acorn programmes have a pling in front of them) away I went. That website is offline now, the company that hosted it for me closed down. I need to do some work on it and maybe one day it will go back.
The key for me was to enjoy and have fun with it. The subject didn't matter as to me as much as the learning of what was required to put it together. - For the curious ones it was simply a fun website based on Bumblee Bee -
